Board of Education will hold special meeting
The Metro Nashville  Board of Education will hold a special meeting Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 5 p.m. at the Central Administration Building boardroom to discuss the contract of Dr. Jesse Register. Dr. Register, former superintendent in Hamilton County, was selected in a special meeting Dec. 20 to become the next director of Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.

Lottery For 2009-2010 Planned January 10

MNPS will hold its annual lottery Saturday, Jan. 10. The lottery, which will fill seats in the district's magnet and optional enrollment schools for the 2009-2010 school year, will begin at 9 a.m. in the boardroom of the Central Administration Building, 2601 Bransford Avenue. The event is open to the public and will be aired on NewsChannel 5+.

Hillsboro Wins 4A Football State Championship
The Hillsboro High School Burros defeated four time defending state champions, the Maryville Rebels, in the Blue Cross Bowl held Saturday, Dec 6 at Middle Tennessee State University becoming the 2008-2009 state champions. Not only did the Burros capture the state championship but they also shattered Maryville’s record of 74 consecutive wins, the longest in the country. Congratulations Burros! Hume-Fogg, MLK Magnet Schools Receive National Honor
Hume-Fogg and Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Magnet High Schools have received gold medal school recognition by US News and World Report in a 2008 ranking of U.S. high schools. Hume-Fogg was ranked 30th out of more than 21,000 schools and MLK was ranked 41st. Congratulations to the staff and students of these schools.


Schools Honored at the 2008 Apple Award Ceremony
Apple Awards are presented each year by the Nashville Chamber of Commerce to schools that meet benchmarks mandated under No Child Left Behind. At this year's ceremony, 88 schools were recognized. Click here to learn more about the award ceremony and to view the list of schools that were honored.
